DESIGN V
FALL 2021
THAILAND
This village on the water is designed as a community to house those transitioning out of homes put in danger by increasingly severe flooding.  To keep its new residents safe from the changing water levels, the main circulating pathway as well as the homes have the ability to rise and fall with the water.  The main public structure housing entertainment and research programming sits on a fixed base and instead registers the water le level visually.  The forms of the structures  are solid, resistant shapes to ensure protection from the environment, but they also recall the traditional sloped roof architectures found in coastal vernacular design.  The overall formal organization is based on the simple geometry of tangent ellipses, with the central garden at the tangent point and the bridges along the minor focus of each ellipse.
