Bovine Wines considers land stewardship through a conscious understanding of how structure and ground meet.  The structural and material choices of rammed earth and wood serve to highlight the variations in how this condition is treated.  To follow with the land contours, the roof lines tumble down the slope in a cascade of overlapping planes.  Public programming and production are separated into separate volumes with occupiable  landscape connecting them.  Circulation through each volume is mirrored, with the people moving down the slope and the grapes/wine moving up the slope and out of the site.  The orientation of masses was decided in order to integrate with topography and to address sun and wind on the site, based on seasonal inhabitation.  The south-facing slope is also ideal for the solar needs of grape vines, which are planted to reflect the contour lines of the hill.
